Feel the Burns

There aren’t enough winter hill races in the calendar, I say. They’re much more unpredictable than their summer cousins and the potential hazards could put organisers off. But thankfully not the organisers of ‘Feel the Burns’. This was an expertly contrived and executed event offering top notch registration and changing facilities (Selkirk Rugby Club), a fine post race feast (soup, haggis, tea and cake), and a fast but challenging course taking in the Three Brethren and a section of the Southern Upland Way.

Borders XC - Paxton House

With my brain still addled from Broxburn the day before, I dragged myself out of bed this morning to notice that my back garden was white. Thinking that I might be seeing things I had a second look, but yep it was definitely snowing - good I thought this could be quite exciting a nice cross country course in the snow! With renewed enthusiasm I packed my bag and set of to meet up with coach Dave who had agreed to do the driving.

CAAC conquers the Desert : Zagora Marathon

Myself, Gillian and our friend Lesa took up the very kind invitation of Abdel to come over to Morocco to run the 9th Zagora Extreme Marathon and Semi Marathon.   The city of Zagora is situated in south east Morocco on the fringes of the Moroccan Sahara Desert.  After our endeavours in Dublin we opted to run the shorter of the two, while Abdel took on the full marathon in his home town race.

Aonach Mor Gondola uphill Race.

I was at Invergarry at new Year, just up the road from Fort William, so what better way to blow away the cobwebs than the Gondola race at Aonach Mor ski centre? This is one of only two annual SHR uphill only races in Scotland, and is a perfect way to start the new year where risk of injury is minimal. The route follows the mountain bike trail mostly, 600m up to the Gondola terminus, and is a mixture of forest track, trail, then open hill and board walks, and above the tree line we were running in slushy snow.

Promathon 2013

The start of 2013 means a clean slate for the CAAC Can't Stop Running league table. My thinking was that if I ran today I would at least have some chance of staying in touch with Mike Anderson in the early part of this year. So with this in mind I turned up to the Portobello Bowling Club this morning. I was now feeling even more confident that my plan was working as Mike had not entered the race. I would be ahead in the table  if I finished the race.

Down N Up & CAAC PAPs 2012 : The Results

Another year done. Decided to break slightly from my traditional barrage of prose and render this years report in pictures.
We were set off quickly by the human stone, Scott Pilkington fastest man down the hill again.

Cupartastic! East District Cross Country Championships 2012-13

9am, Ladywell. It looked to be the beginning of a bleak day for Corstorphine Athletics Club. I was late for the bus - even after Moray had saved my bacon with the sad report of a failed late fitness test via text. With one good man out the team already upon arrival at the bus there were more reports of call offs and a extremely poor tally of only nine persons even including evergreen supporter Sheena on a 65 seater bus. From there thankfully the day picked up...
