CAAC welcomed 19 athletes from five clubs across Scotland for its second frame running festival on Sunday.

Competitors aged from five to their 70s headed to sun-kissed Saughton to take part in a series of races from 50m to 800m on a fun-packed day at the track.

Team East Lothian, Dunfermline’s Pitreavie AAC, and Glasgow clubs Victoria Park and Red Star joined CAAC members for the event, with a string of personal bests achieved.

It helped build on the success of last year’s inaugural festival as CAAC – the current Scottish Athletics Para Development Club of the Year – continues its work on inclusivity and expanding access for all.

Club vice-president and frame running coach Graeme Reid said: “It was a cracking day. It never ceases to inspire us seeing the effort the frame runners put into these events, but always with a smile on their faces.

“The athletes made the event really special with a great crowd of supporters bringing a very positive and friendly atmosphere to the occasion.

“This is the second time we’ve held this event and it looks set to become a regular on the frame running calendar, with the CAAC contingent now planning to enter further events in Pitreavie, Glasgow and Aberdeen over the summer.”

Meanwhile, Stuart Livingstone showed he’s not slowing down as he retained his M40 title at the Scottish 5K Championships – setting a new M40 course record and club record in the process.

Stuart crossed the line at Silverknowes on Friday night in a time of 14:57, shaving 10 seconds off last year’s effort.

He was one of 35 men to break the 15-minute mark as the overall course record was also shattered in the Sri Chinmoy race dubbed “the fast one”.

Angus Smith finished an excellent ninth in 14:23 – 33 seconds faster than his time 12 months ago.

There was further success in the U20 women’s race as Alice Mourao continued her impressive performances over recent months to take third in 18:08.

Further afield, Kara McKenzie-Tait finished 12th for GB in the elite women’s race at the Europe Triathlon Aquathlon Championships in Navarra-Pamplona, Spain. She completed the 1,000m swim and 5km run in 36:04.

Fellow CAAC member Lauren Doney was top in the 16-19 female category in 37:46.

Elsewhere, there were good performances in the Scottish National Athletics League meeting in Aberdeen as Heather Forsythe, Alice Craigie and Alice Mourao bagged good points for the team, while Belle Logan set a new PB as she claimed third in the U17 women’s 800m at the East District T&F Championships at Pitreavie earlier this month.
