CORSTORPHINE AAC athletes have been racking up the medals from Stirling to the subcontinent.
Dougie Selman helped Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s men’s team take bronze in the IAU World 100km Championships in India.
The 36-year-old British champion, who was pulling on a GB & NI vest for the first time, battled 30C heat, humidity and altitude to cross the line in 29th place in a time of 7hrs 22mins and 48secs.
The brave run by Dougie – cheered on by wife Jenny, who also mucked in to aid the wider GB squad – helped the men’s squad to a third-place finish behind Japan and Spain in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The global success comes after CAAC competitors bagged a raft of podium finishes at the Lindsays East District XC Championships.
Donald Macaulay and Stuart Livingstone made it a CAAC double in the men’s M40, taking second and third respectively. ‘DJ’ crossed the line in 30:02, while Stuart came home in 30:58 over the 8.6km course. Their efforts – along with Moray Anderson – saw the Masters men scoop second place in the team event.
The Senior men matched that with some excellent finishes. Angus Smith (12th), James Dunn (15th), Calum McKenzie (20th), Ewan Brown (21st), Donald Macaulay (22nd) and Mickey Breen (27th) were the counters in the team event.
Overall, in the 250-strong men’s field, there were NINE Corstorphine finishers in the top 35.
Charlotte MacPhie took third in the U20 women’s race in a time of 28:03 – just one second behind the runner-up in the event over 6.4km.
In the Senior women’s team contest, Kirsty Macaulay, Fiona Davies, Anne Ewing and Kirstin Maxwell just missed out on a podium as they finished in a strong fourth out of 15 teams.
There were also top-10 finishes for Tymek Chmielowski (U15 boys) and Alice Mourao (U17 women) in the championships staged at Stirling University on November 30.
