THE cross-country season kicked off with a large Corstorphine AAC contingent competing in the Lindsays East District XC Relay Championships.
The quartet of Dermot Cummins, Douglas McKinnon, Malcolm Lang and Donald Macaulay claimed top spot in the men’s Masters with a time of 53:23.
They crossed the line eight seconds behind the men’s Senior team of Stephen Addison, Calum McKenzie, Tom Cunningham and Callum Hunter, who came 13th overall.
There were two CAAC teams in the top 10 in women’s Seniors as Kirsty Macaulay, Kara Mckenzie-Tait and Kirstin Maxwell finished 7th in a time of 46:31, while Leah Davie, Jessica Tovey and Charlotte Macphie came home 9th in 47:23.
A total of 18 CAAC teams took part in the event in Livingston, including line-ups in both the young male and young female races.
The weekend also saw a host of Corstorphine athletes taking part in the 30,000-strong AJ Bell Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.
Josie-Wren Golder, who finished 2nd in the women’s 10k last year, took an excellent 3rd in this year’s race in a time of 38:24.
Iain Hutchinson, Ken Speirs, Craig Knowles, Stuart Campbell, Adam Chmielowski, Iain Macleod, Andy Nichol, Stuart Fenwick, Mike Harrison, Greg Palmer, Niamh Gallagher, Steven Blair, Amanda Gow and Martin Caldwell, who was competing in his 35th consecutive year, all completed the half-marathon.
It was an extra special effort by Iain Macleod and Andy, who both took part in the cross-country relays 24 hours earlier.
Finally, Kieran Scott followed in Tristan Rabaeijs’ footsteps as he flew the CAAC flag in the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra Marathon.
Kieran completed the gruelling 57-mile course between Glasgow’s Riverside Museum and Saughton in 9:34:41.
