As the athletics spotlight shone on the World Indoor Championships at the Emirates Arena over the weekend, Corstorphine AAC teams secured their own successes one mile away at Glasgow Green in the 53rd Allan Scally Memorial Road Race.
The men’s M40 and M50 squads both finished first in the 4x5K relay event, while there was a second for the Senior men’s team.
The M40 team comprising Chris Poxton, Malcolm Lang, Jeremy Rogers and Iain Hutchison came home in a time of 1:08:22 to take the title on Saturday.
In the M50 category, Max Colligan, Allan Cunningham, Iain Macleod and Stuart Campbell clocked 1:09:37 to finish 31 seconds clear.
The Senior men’s quartet of Dermot Cummins, Angus Smith, Calum McKenzie and Jack Eykelbosch put in another fine showing as they crossed the line in 1:00:43, with Dermot securing the sixth fastest leg of the day in a time of 14:52.
The Senior women’s team – Josie-Wren Golder, Olivia Clarke, Kirstin Maxwell and Jessica Tovey – finished a strong fourth in 1:13:55.
Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to event organisers Shettleston Harriers.
James Dunn added to CAAC’s weekend haul when he finished first in the men’s event at the VMH Solicitors Lasswade 10-Mile Road Race on Sunday.
James completed the course in 53:57 – more than 90 seconds clear of the runner-up – as the race returned after a four-year absence.
Thanks to our friends at Lasswade AC for their organisation.
