Corstorphine vs Harmeny 2012 T&F Match
Submitted by IanCampbell on
Despite rain of biblical proportions 50 super keen junior athletes attended the 2nd annual match between Corstorphine and Harmeny. The timetable was restricted due to a river on the javelin runway and dolphins in the long jump pit however all athletes competed in the remaining events with commitment, humour and no shortage of talent.
The challenging head wind made life more tricky than usual for sprinters however quality technique led to some good runs with Euan Stewart ( 12.9) , Tom Hunt ( 14.3) , Sarah Malone (14.1) and Rhona Lloyd (13.9) being fastest . As ever the under 11s had the closest races with Rachel Dee and Katy Coates keeping the finish line judges busy until Rachel was given the nod.
Further excitement featured in the shot putt circle. This has been very popular with the juniors this season. Isla Scott (8.14) had the biggest throw of the night and a number of athletes in other age groups threw PBs including Ross Kerr (5.59), Fergus Campbell ( 4.90) and Eilidh Thores ( 5.78)
Conditions were kinder in the distance races with Anthony Addison posting 2.20 in the 800m following a hard run 1500 at the Inter region schools earlier in the day. Again the club had plenty depth in races in all age groups and were first in 6 out of the 7 events. Finlay Ross running 2.43 , Euan Stewart posting 2.32 and Hannah Mcglynn running 3.11 deserve special mentions.
The senior 3000m was won at a canter by Kris Berry(8.59) from Micky “The Breen machine “ Breen (9.01). Chris Galloway was 1st U17 in a creditable 9.38 with Bruce Malcolm 1st vet in 11.03. Jess Mclintick, Lisa Christy and Claire Sloan were first three women . The juniors gave fanatical support during this event which also saw Shaun Cavens score early revenge by reversing the finishing order with Ian Campbell from the Red Moss Revolution held the previous evening.
Thanks to all who made the event a great success. Hoping for better weather next year !
