The Tour Stage 2

Today I received a text from Coach Dave just after midday. Unusual........ I didn't even realise he knew how to use a mobile. The text reminded me that I had beaten Fiona by only 1 second and that he and Shaun weren't that far behind me. Oh, and he asked how my legs were. Very kind......... I reckon that the mind games have started early this year! This is just encouragement to start obsessing about your placement and who you have to stay ahead of or keep close to. I think it might have been the reason that I was feeling a bit nervous before this race. I am a sensitive soul you see.....

The Tour - Stage 1

Another year another tour. My 7th! I arrived at Grant's feeling unusually negative about what I was about to start. Most people will know that I am a happy go lucky chap who always has a glass that's half full. Today just wasn't doing it for me. I felt tired, I didn't want to go and it was just going to be very hard. So unlike me! Grant tried to cheer me up. "I've got some amazing music in the car. It will get you in the right mood.": he said.  I liked it - the Crossnotes or whatever they are called do an interesting mix of punjabi and r&b.

Ea-Aw at Donkey Brae

Quite a few of us where present at this years Donkey Brae race on Sunday.  It was the opening day of the Aberdour Festival and there was plenty going on in the village green with lots of stalls selling local produce including beers, hog roast, lots of nice food and even nice bikes and cycling kit.

Northumberland Coastal Run

Only Coach Dave had been quick enough of the mark to join me on my second outing of this brilliant 14 miler. Dave had tried to persuade me to do the camping thing, but the nearest I got to a tent was to pick him up from the campsite where he and his family were staying on Sunday morning for our warm up jog down to the registration tent in Beadnell.

Moffat 15k

A small and very select group of CAACers turned out for the Moffat 15k. Mickey, Dave H and I were the only CAACers who managed to navigate the flooded roads from Edinburgh. Apparently Gillian had come in late from work and therefore the Carrs had not been able to join us. I wonder was she really late or worried about being beaten again by some old Dutchman......?

Glamaig

There was a record field for the 25th anniversary running of the David Shepherd memorial Glamaig hill race on Skye, and conditions were ideal and clear. There is only one objective, starting and finishing at the Sligachan Hotel, and the middle bit, the summit cairn of Sgurr Mhairi on Glamaig. Well its the bit in between that's the tester, an approach over heather and bog moorland (remarkably dry this year) and then the real guts of the race, increasingly steep open hill and scree, a lung screaming burn to 775m from sea level.

CAAC Sandy Slither Success at Elie

I am generally known for providing noisy roadside support, sometimes with a cow bell, looking after bags and car keys and driving tired people home after races and although this is rather late, I am just about to have my first bash at race reporting.  On 4th July as I was recovering from chickenpox, my lovely husband suggested a wee trip to Elie would be just the ticket.  Ah.....
