Spring is sprung the grass is ris, I wonder where the handicap is?
So, the Spring handicap was supposed to take place sometime in, er...Spring! April I think. The date seems to have been lost in the mists of time. So here we are with the practically mid-summer handicap which will now take place on Tuesday 28th June at 7.30pm (pending sufficient uptake of entrants!)
Alan Cameron's words of wisdom "it is the greatest race you will have ever taken part in!" At first I was sceptical as sometimes he talks nonsense but truer words have never been spoken.
From the moment we arrived and checked in to the hotel you could see runners going around with their club tops on, more runners going on the London bus tours and the Thames river tours - it all added to the excitement knowing that everyone was on a similar adventure that was going to culminate in a challenge of the marathon.
Putting together the 2016 12 Stage team was like watching a car crash in slow motion; a crash that resulted in a lorry fire at the Lymm interchange blocking north and south bound carriageways of the M6! You had to admire the cavalry charge though. As athlete after athlete pulled out with one thing and another and we got down, literally, to the last men standing, a car of 3 departed Edinburgh at 8pm, drove through the night and avoided the carnage to arrive in the early hours of Saturday morning.
