Quick question re organising a race

Hi.  I am involved in trying to re-invigorate the Gorgie Dalry Gala Day, which is on Saturday 10th June.  One way we are trying to do this is by bringing back the fun run on the morning of the Gala Day, which used to have over 500 people running in it each year. At the moment, the intention is to keep it as a fun run  (around 5k) to try and keep it as accessible for as many people as possible so it is not likely to interest club runners but as I have never organised a race before I am pretty clueless. Adrian Sprott from Run and Become has been helping a little.

The main thing I am looking for help with is how to get race numbers and how much this costs - does anyone know? We are currently in discussion with the council and police about the route but it has not been decided yet. We are intending to not use chips but just a big clock, which I believe Adrian is helping us with.

Also, I was wondering if someone could advise me on the best way to manage the results in terms of software etc.

If people have any more advice it would be greatly received.

Oh and I'm hoping to be back at the club in a month or 2.  I've only ran twive since November due to injury.

Cheers

There is some great online

There is some great online timing now available, that allows time marshal as the finish and intermediate points to capture peoples time using iphones and have the results appear online imediately.

http://racesplitter.com/  appears to be best in this regard although http://www.webscorer.com/ appears to be as good.

Both seem to be limited to iphones as the timing devices for the marashal with no support (yet) for Android devices.

Worth checking out, definitely far better than the sheets of paper and excel spreadsheet Tim and I have used in the past.

(I'd toyed with idea of creating my own android app and website along these lines, but the I'd estimated that it have taken me at least 6-9 months using all my spare time so gave up on the idea).

Quick question re organising

Nice!

I made my competetive debut in that race years ago, photographs show a fine celtic strip and the rest of the family. Pob took down some silverware as did mother Murray. Becca is still in the pram. Webmaster might be able to scan some in even though i think he beat me then.
