Borders Cross Country Series - Kelso 7th ( Final Race )

Well done to all you intrepid travellers going down today to Kelso to finish off the Borders XC series .

Im sure it would have been a v. scenic course  around the grounds of Floors Castle (The East District  Champs were held there a few years ago , along the Banks if the Tweed .)

Good run Chris Black , picking up a 2nd place on the day ( where were you yesterday ?  ! )

Special mention to Ally , Ian , Jan the mountain Goat & Fiona who competed after Saturdays gruelling course in Falkirk

Well done also Martin C - you beat Dave Nightingale of Gala by a 1/2 minute.

Borders Cross Country Series

The last one was in Kelso rather then in Norham. To be honest I was a bit disappointed I like the many burn crossings and the mud....... Still Martin had kindly offered to drive me there and after a couple of false starts (number & vest/shoes) we managed to get to Kelso in good time. The weather was looking pretty good and if you stayed out of the wind it was even quite pleasant. The CAAC elite had turned out for this one and Jo (Derek's better half who we haven't been able to persuade to join the elite. I reckon we have next series to work on it some more.

As Graeme has already mentioned the CAAC Hardcore Runners were there. After trudging through the mud yesterday we went for some more punishment today. To be honest the legs were feeling a bit weary. Martin had reassured me in the car that this was a flat course so I relaxed and wasn't too worried. Not sure what his definition of flat exactly is, but the steep banks that we seemed to run up and down on rather a lot didn't feel particularly flat to me!

I kept to the flat top of the course for my minimal warm up, which only confirmed what I already knew. My legs were feeling a tad sore today....... Still I - perhaps as usual - was the only moany one. Fiona was right up for another run, Alastair was like a coiled spring ready to run another stormer and Ian appeared to quietly confident of another good run. Of course Chris, Martin, Derek and Rachel were fresh as daisies and so was my old rival Mike MS.

I had decided I would start from the back and more then likely end up somewhere near the back. We galloped off into the fields once the starter had blown his whistle. Just as well as within the first half mile we encountered the first of several equestrian obstacles that we had to either jump or in my case clamber over.......just what our legs needed! Still it made the course fun and we were warned about the water jump to come later on in the course. Shouldn't really have worried as Martin had already figured out that the jump was bone dry!

Several times up and down the river bank ensured that this course wasn't quite as flat as I had hoped for, all the same it was quite enjoyable. Chris must have liked it as he took 2nd place in the race, with Ali in 12th and Ian in 15th this was good day for Corstorphine.  Fiona's run secured her 2nd senior female placing for the series and Sarah (absent today) had already done enough to take 3rd senior female. Martin 2nd place in his age category today ensured a 3rd placing in the 55- 59 category. So all in all a pretty good day for CAAC!

Borders Cross Country Series

They've made a bit of a hash of the results and presentations that they're keeping quiet about just now... we were all surprised not to see Chris Black get an award, and looking at the latest overall scores he clearly came 2nd in the series so hopefully they'll sort all of that out soon.

Well done to everyone who took part - lots of fun!
