East District Cross Country League

Livingston was the venue for the 2nd match of the East League and the conditions were good to firm and dry overhead (a sharp contrast to the many mudbaths and snow fests we've seen there over the years).

Team Addison got us off to a good start with an 8th in the U11 boys (backed up by 15th and 25th to come home 3rd on the day) and a 2nd in the U13 Boys (sadly no back up for such a sterling performance).  The senior men took up the mantel and delivered another fine display packing their six counters into the top 20 with 4th, 7th, 12th, 15th, 17th and 20th.  That gave us 2nd behind Central on the day but cemented our lead in the league race over Edinburgh AC and means it will be hard for anyone to catch us come the next meeting in Broxburn.

However, do not rest on your laurels and sit back thinking all the hard work is done.  Our B team finished 4th on Sunday with athletes in 21st, 22nd, 24th 38th, 55th and 67th and currently lie 5th overall and a mere dozen points behind Carnegie in 4th.  Let's see a big turnout on January 14th at Broxburn where we could and should be crowned League Champions for the first time in the history of the club and make sure our B team take 4th spot as well.

It should be noted that the only league title Corstorphine have won to date is the Under 11 Boys title during the 1995/96 season. National Championships are top of the Scottish domestic Cross Country calendar in terms of stature and below that are the District Championships. To compete in the District League a club is competing against the same athletes who attend the District Championships except this is over 3 meetings as opposed to a one off race. To potentially finish 1st and 4th in the league for Senior Men highlights the growing strength in depth Corstorphine have in this age group. As Tommy says it would be great to see a big turnout across all age groups at the last match so lets see everyone out there!

completely correct BC and Tommy, however, it is still disappointing that in the last xc league meet we had more in the older age groups. We are doing very well in the seniors, because they turned out, but there were many 'traditionalists' missing!
Look how well the U11's performed when they had a team, same would apply IF the other age groups had a minimum of 3 runners turning out.
Our overall league position includes ALL age groups, and while its nice to see our senior proving themselves as best from the east, just behind Central, The other big edinburgh club will still beet us in the overall league as they have juniors turning out. While that still happens, we potentially will loose up and coming top juniors to then, as before.

Great run by Kipkeitho for 4th, looking to be rounding into superb form. I counted at least 12 of our guys mentally which couldve also slotted into the top 25 (obviously it wouldnt be 25 then!) so definitely looking like a strong squad.

It was a great course Sunday - a bit of everything. The downhill finish really was welcome, further eased by the distant sighting of the fluttering CAAC flags on the finish ramparts!

Good runs from the wee guys too, quite a battle in Anthony's race and he almost got back to pick the Pitreavie lad on the line. Gripping.
