Caerketton Hill Race 11-08-2010
This midweek race, the finale of the Bog and Burn series is definitely short and sharp.. very sharp. Your legs go from quads acheing to calves screaming as you climb hands on knees before summitting into a strong wind which on dazed legs you try to run over to the top of the hill and the start of the easy part, the 'downhill'. It isnt really all that easy, well not for me last night anyways! I was a little too timid retracing our steps back down the steep incline where you are faced with the option of a leap over the fence and possible infamy or the gentler use of the stile, before a grassy more runnable plummet to the finish line. It was over so quick that you almost wanted more.
First up was Callum Campbell and Joe Stapleton in the Junior race to the first top a hefty climb in itself. Callum finishing 6th and Joe 1st, great runs. Bruce Malcolm, Graham McLean, Paul O'Brien and myself all exchanged words of encouragement as we passed on the summit plateaua and all were moving well at the finish. Not able to emulate Callum or Joe's feats though we had to make do with the results below. Good fun, especially the my dad vs your dad final run off between Paul and Ian Campbell in HBT colours! There is a Caerketton downhill only race in early September if anyone fancies it? ;]
