Forth Bridge 10K 08-08-2010

On a glorious day where the winds had thankfully dropped and the heat soared, DaveS, Grant, MartinC and i headed over to Fife and back and then back again. It was my first attempt at this route and i have to admit despite much debate over the actual race distance (I got it slightly short, Martin bang on a few others slightly short etc etc), i found the route to be quite tough. You were always either facing down or facing up so pacing and settling into the some rhythm was certainly a challenge. Dave decided like the rest of us to give Simon Plummer a head start and the 30s or so he gained in the first 4K proved to be decisive with Dave holding the distance from there to the finish to end up 2nd. Grant, managed to hold onto to Jeff Farqhuar for slightly longer than i and came in in 6th, 9 or so seconds and a place ahead of me and Martin came home in what he estimated to be a course best for him under the 40min mark at 39 and change.

Dave and Grant took down 2nd overall and first V40 respectively, but we missed out on the team prize by 2pts with a 1st/3rd and 9th securing the title for Carnegie. Selected results below, full results @ http://www.pitreavie-aac.co.uk/pdf/... and photos @ http://www.roadrunpics.com/2010Fort...

2 David Simpson Senior Corstorphine AAC 31.49
6 Grant Wilkie V40 Corstorphine AAC 33.31

33 Martin Caldwell V50 Corstorphine AAC 39.16

On Sunday 8th August 2010 an elite squad of CAACers went to the North Queensferry area of Fife with a mission to run extremely fast and to test out our new secret weapon.  The test obviously held us back a bit at the start.  Photographic evidence can be viewed via roadrunpics.com that whilst leaving the community centre compound two CAAC athletes donned special sunglasses emitting a powerful force field effectively neutralising anyone in a fluorescent vest in the vicinity.

Unfortunately, even at this early stage, the eventual winner of the race was out of range and the 3rd and 9th placed runners must have got wind of our plan defending themselves with their own protective eyewear and even a hat (Tommy kens aboot these things).  It seems that Jeff's vest isn't bright enough as he also slipped through the net.  An amazing 55 Carnegians finished the race to our fighting 4, not sure how many were adversely affected by the special 'men in white' weapon, next time we should get out of the blocks a bit quicker just in case.

Will go faster chevrons á la Elton John circa early 70s help? Sunnies are the way to go.

I was only born in 1975, so how do i still know what you are talking about!!!!

CARNEGIE CLONING SCANDAL

I have now realised what Carnegie were up too and yes there is more photographic evidence- photograph 4 (roadrunpics.com forth road bridge) your honour

The athlete behind Kerry and Grant can clearly be seen cloning himself from his stomach, and looking mighty pleased with it.  Now scan your eyes to the right hand side and Tommy (in the protective red hat) has just squeezed another one out!!

I have heard of strength in numbers but that's taking it too far!

pure unadulterated genius.. ;] The photo in question

Dave, just for you

Thanks Grant.  I get strange enough looks when I am out for a run.
