Match 3 - Men's League 2010
The team were up against it today as they looked to follow an impressive performance in match 2 where 6 1sts, 6 2nds, and a host of PB's saw us finish 2nd on the day.
It was a familiar tale though with the squad relying on the likes of Dave Singleton (TJ, HJ, PV and 4 x 100m) and Stephen Milne (100m, TJ, Discus, Javelin and 4x100m) to multi-event, and on Callum McKenzie, Paddy Jumelle and Craig Knowles to cover 3 events each in order to get close to filling all the available slots on the team.
In the end we only managed to cover 20 out of 32 and it is this lack of depth that will see us consigned to Division 2 again for next season. All credit to the guys who turned out today and clearly gave their all, but they were hard pushed to make any inroads on the three clubs who were ahead of us.
Athlete of the day was undoubtedly Dermot Cummins who ran two season's best times while taking 2nd in the B 800m (1:58.44) and then going on to take 1st A in the 5000m (15:20.17).
The racing highlight was a gutsy front run from Fraser Scott in the 1500m (3:57.83) who held of a late surge from Scott Pilkington (3:58.92) for a CAAC 1-2.
Ciaran Johnston and Bryan Clark picked up more valuable points in the struggle but it wasn't to be.
Hopefully we'll go out with a bang instead of a whimper in 3 weeks time when we should have some more strength in depth to bolster the squad.
Thanks as usual to our officials on the day Sheena Anderson, John Ross and Fiona Squires - it was hot out there in the middle and they certainly earned their pieces!

Good effort chaps, great run Fraser proved that wind at Pitreavie was holding back the inevitable and well deserved run! First class running Dermot, great days work. Kudos to all that did more than one event, never an easy task.
Hopefully be able to help a little, and get my feet wet in a couple of weeks time.
