Moffat Toffee or Chips?
This Tuesday was annual Moffat festival of running but this year was special. It was the 25th Anniversary and Grant Wilkie interrupted his family holiday to come along with the troops for his first attempt at the 15k race.
It was a fine evening for the start of the race, heading out the town along a “nicely” undulating country road to a farm makes up the first four miles. At this point you head through the farmyard and the hill is reached. It is a hill and a half and stretches onwards and upwards for a mile, taking a while before you actually see the top - A nice surprise for Grant. It was also nice to see the marshals fitting in some all important knitting as they watched us start our struggle.
The best part of the course is when you hit five miles at the top of the hill and the next four miles are downhill all the way! This year there was a bit of wind against us so it wasn’t as fun as it could have been.
Final stretch on the course is back into the town, cheered on by the crowds and an appreciated shout out from the Wilkies just before the finish line. Cheers!!
Fourth time for me doing this race, Laura Smith (to be our newest club member soon) ran for a second time improving her time from last year and Grant had a great race to finish second!
Normally goody bag has a slate coaster, this year it was a mega slate anniversary special coaster and Grant already has plans to use it for his teapot. A special 25th anniversary t-shirt and a mars bar made up the rest of the goodies.
We waited for the final person to finish and to cheer on Grant receiving his prize from the Moffat Gala Queen. Then the rain started and it hasn’t stopped yet.
Moffat toffee shop closed so it was chips for all!
Results not out yet but seemed liked a good turnout this year. Will post them when I see them.
Damn, I wanted to do this race sounds brilliant
well done
Wish I'd been aware of this one too. Well done! Does it go into the Devil's Punch Bowl?
Well done all. It sounds like a good race!
man, if I'd have known they were dishing out mega slates I'd have been down there like a shot!
I always thought it was called the Devil's Beef Tub but Punch Bowl sounds good! We did run out that way but luckily not too far into the centre, just to the edge then up to the Edinburgh Road.
You are right Corrie. I'm easily confused these days.
