Hebridean Series, Barrathon 2010
This year CAAC headed across the Minch in force to take on the Barrathon. The crossing was well, very interesting, I'm sure you'll all hear about it and we arrived late into Castlebay. While some of us headed to our B&B's others had to rake around in the dark to find somewhere to pitch their tents
On race day all standing on the start line in the drizzle and wind and were soon underway. Weather conditions improved throughout the race. Running the west side was very dramatic with the Atlantic lashing the rocks on our left, but with the wind behind ensured a pretty fast start. The sun started to come out for the 2nd half as we headed home. However the headwind and the very steep ascent of the big hill (shoulder of heaval hill) was particular hard work before the high speed descent down into Castlebay.
Everyone ran well, for most on their first Barrathon. The club did well on the Prizes with Gillian 1st F17-34, Kerry 2nd F35-44, Susan 3rd F40+ and myself squeezing in 3rd M17-39 courtesy of race winner Phil Mowbray being in the same category (also a course record 1:16:27).
we also entered 2 teams and came a credible 3rd and 7th place.

Post race was the Barrathon buffet amazing as ever and the Ceilidh was great fun also (although local band The Vatersay Boys were not playing).
Next day involved cycling around the Island again and visiting some amazing beaches on Vatersay.
Great fun and onto the Isle of Harris this weekend for the final race of the series
Pictures from the race can now be found on http://www.barrathon.org.uk/pictures.php
Check out the photos of the buffet! Awesome! I'll be back next year for more of that. :-)
