The stars of track and field are...beautiful people.

The second match of the Men's League season took place on Sunday in stupendous conditions at Grangemouth.  Perhaps a little breezy but nevertheless a great day for soaking up the action.

And Corstorphine didn't dissappoint with a host of PB's and some fine racing to boot.

New boys Scott Hamilton (100m, LJ, TJ and 4x100m), Andrew Christy (1500m), and 2nd claimer Andrew Douglas (5000m) were joined by old campaigners Christopher O'Brien, Tom Ferrington (Steeplechase), and Dave Singleton (PV, LJ, TJ, 4x100m and 4x400m) to bolster a team that struggled to make much of an impression in Aberdeen at the first outing.

The survivors of that threadbare Aberdeen squad Stephen Milne (100m, 200m, Shot Putt, Discus and 4x100m), Paddy Jumelle (200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m), Fraser Scott (800m, 1500m and 4x400m), Scott Pilkington (800m and 4x400m), and Bryan Clark (5000m) acquitted themselves admirably racking up some big points for the cause.

Notable performances on the day were Paddy Jumelle who scored PB's in the 200m and 400m and who ran down 2nd place on the last leg of the 4x100m; Stephen Milne who scored a PB in the Shot Putt; and last but by no means least Dave Singleton who added a massive 1.50m to his Triple Jump PB in a series of ever increasing leaps that had Mike Clerihew (officiating on the tape) calling for a second opinion on the distance!  Dave's final jump of 13.19m is also, I believe, a club record.

The squad is still 3 or 4 athletes short of being the finished article - no hurdlers, only one thrower, and still too many people having to double/triple up in events - but there is a real cohesion building about the team, and for the first time in a while genuine excitement in the stands from those watching.  We finished 2nd on the day which is a vast improvement and gives us a solid platform to build on going into the second half of the season, lying as we are in 5th overall but just 1 match point behind Whitemoss and Fife in 3rd and 4th.

The final two meetings are on 8th August (Wishaw) and 29th August (Grangemouth).  Competition for places is going to be fierce as everyone clamours to be a part of the CAAC TRACK revolution!

Well done everyone who ran, jamp, threw and vaulted - good effort!  Thanks again to Mike and Eileen Clerihew and Sheena Anderson for sterling work in the field  - without our officials we don't get to take part!

Nice, new words for a new generation. Thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle yesterday, it was my first track meet since the World Championships in Berlin last year and every bit as enjoyable to watch. Well done chaps!

Well done all and sounds like a bit of a PB fest. Good luck in the final two meetings.

No wonder Mr Clerihew wanted that Triple Jump checked. It is indeed a new club record - the previous record holder being David Clerihew who set the record almost exactly 11 years ago at Grangemouth. His jump that day (13/6/99) was 12.56m.

Clerihew senior was also present that day as a thrower and jumper. We had both O'Brien brothers fighting it out on the 800m and O'Brien Senior following Kipkeitho on a 3000 metres steeplechase.  There was another family gathering at the hammer with both Jim and Chris Hynd.

And we even had 2 hurdlers.
