Dunfermline Half - 13/06/10
New course this year so was tempted back to give it another try, though the new date clashed with the Dechmont Law race which was a shame as that's one of my favourites. Spotting the Dechmont Alien is a highlight (see Steve B's report).
However, being a Dunfermline laddie, and with the promise of some family support on the course, it meant I was off to Fife on Sunday morning.
The race still starts and finishes in Pittencrieff Park which is fine, but this time after a loop of the Park we headed out along the West Fife cycle path. We left that at the 4 mile mark to run on some quiet B roads around Cairneyhill (now I know why there's a 'hill' in the name - it's certainly not flat around there!). We ended up near Oakley, about 8 miles in at this point, and were then directed back on to the cycle path heading East this time back to Dunfermline. It was here that I went storming past one of the Shettleston Eiritrean runners like he was standing still. I kid you not. (But the poor guy was injured and was slowly walking his way back to the finish!)
Back in Dunfermline there were a few annoying little loops and sharp turns (including a bizarre trip in and out of a small car park - I guess to make up the 13.1 miles). Then into the Park for some more sharp turns before the finish line came into sight.
Not quite a PB, but still under 1:25 which was the target so still pleased overall. I think there were at least a couple of PB's from the CAAC contingent (BC and Scott), 1st V40 for Grant, and good strong runs from all. Lots of Grand Prix points for Grant and Bryan.

Well done all, great set of results on from what I have been told was quite a demanding course, looks like yet more silverware for Grant?
First class running and a national masters title for Grant too! Well done!
Bruce omitted to mention that the team took bronze medals which is an excellent achievement in what was after all a national championship. There aren't too many folk in the club who hold national medals so well done to Grant, BC and especially Bruce as the final counter in a team is often the most important.
Great running guys
Well done! See that CAAC5 you sharpened you up nicely. Dodging cars and lorries is good for you!
Well done all, great running! Picking up prizes too.
