CAAC 5 Road Race & Fun Run 2010 - The Results

Posted by c0b. Thu, 10/06/2010 - 1:27pm

After 3000 days of rain (ok i exaggerate) the skies cleared and 'CAAC 5 Wednesday' was run in good weather if a slightly strong wind. The 7th running of the event, and another record turnout was contested over a slightly changed course due to requests from the Police to divert from the previous route as it was deemed dangerous. The start was changed to Craigs Road, not far on from the 4 mile marker and headed straight down to join Turnhouse Road and continued from there as was.

The start was very brisk and i'd be suprised if the first mile was not the fastest of the 5 for the entire field. At the front of the field Messrs Scott Pilkington, Grant Wilkie, Jeff Farqhuar and Andrew Christy broke away and worked together until about the halfway point. Pilkington was the first to suffer and at the top of the first hill dropped off the three. Farqhuar fresh from setting an alltime Veteran 50 Scottish Track 10K best at Meadowbank on Sunday then continued to push on and alongside Christy 37 years his junior managed to eek out a gap distancing Wilkie to 3rd as they approached the final climb to the 4 mile mark. Passing the start again the pace ignited to the finish and Farqhuar managed to maintain a winning margin to finish holding off Christy to win by 4s. A fast last mile by Milne seen the Lothian RC runner jump from 9th place to 3rd just pipping Wilkie by 1s. The Female race was equally well contested with former winner Kate Jenkins being overhauled by Issy Menzies of Edinburgh AC by 5s. Susan Ridley the leading V40 took 3rd place in the race proper ahead of Dhavala Stott from Sri Chinmoy and race supporters Run&Become. The fun run was won by Sandy Robson of CAAC in 8m18s.
