Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay 2010 : Register your interest

Posted by c0b. Wed, 02/06/2010 - 12:48pm

Very early daysfor this however entries for the Hodgson open up on the 1st of July closing on the 31st so its already time to start talking about it. Its a tough Mountain Relay but glorious at the same time especially in the sunshine!

There are 4 legs each to be run in pairs, the 1st and 3rd are measured at ~4.5 miles and both are fairly runnable the third especially. The 2nd and 4th legs are ~7.5miles and have a ~ double the ascent of the shorter legs aka lots more downhill ;]

Ideally if interest is there and there is capacity it would be great to take two CAAC teams down however from past experience the race is extremely limited and it is unlikely we will be able to attain a 2nd entry and also it isnt unknown for us to be scrabbling around at the last minute to achieve the full 8 for one team!

With the above in mind i would invite you to register your interest please by reply. Ideally i would like to have a pool of 10 that will be travel down which will include 2 travelling reserves to make up one team.

This years event takes place on Sunday the 3rd of October. More details @ http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races....

I'm in!

Loved leg 2 last year, get me down!

I'd like to have a go too - depending on who else enters that could be evenly matched with me.

Put me down. I'll defer to any stronger runner if need be.

Your down!. I'd like to think we'll have a well balanced team this year, most likely a mix of old and new 'Hodgo' heids and the process will be fairly organic. The good thing about this year is 2weeks after we also have the UK FRA Relays being held in Fife and we should get a few teams out for that? But of course prior to that we get to have fun at Comrie ;] The hills are alive!

Its been a few years since I last had ago, so I would to give it another shot before Im too olde and fat!

Sounds fun. I'll take part if you need someone else.  Don't mind being replaced by a stronger runner though.

Add my name to the list.

i'm in

Put me down please Chris, cheers BC.

I'll register interest, better be as reserve just now, although I'd love to do leg 1 (for the insane descent) or get leg 4 right.

I think it will always be run anticlockwise now (well until a new landlord presides and the Kirkstone Inn... at the very least) so it would be Leg1. I had the pleasure of running down there last year with Pete and once we had bucked up the courage to let go after 'dropping off' and it really felt like that, the scree surfing was awesome.

Red Screes is easily one of the best hill running spectacles around, wether ascending or descending for both participants and spectators. I do however to pander to my memory of supping a pint in the car park after doing an early leg and watching our Leg4 runners heading off up the sheer ascent.

Entry away! Just required to enter the club for now. Have entered 1 team.

I could be a reserve if no places.

I'll be in Peru now on the 3rd Oct so will need to be removed from the list of possibles.

Apologies, I need to call off too as now away that weekend.

Hi sorry for the late note of interest but put me down if there's still space.  Loved leg 4 last year.

You can count me in, if you ever get that far down the list.

Looks like our entry has been accepted as the cheque has just been cashed. Will start trying to sort out the team shortly. Still time for anyone else to register interest before i do so. Cheers.

READ THIS PLEASE

Ok, the time is looming for our descending to the Lakes and taking on the mighty Hodgo'! Have a few requests and points for discussion at this stage.

Request#1, Tommo organised maps for each of the legs last year that were lamenated and very clear and easy to use. Runners last year can you check your kit and hand these back to me at some point for use again this year please?

Request#2, All runners ensure you have the necessary kit ahead of the day please. Full waterproof cover, food, compass, whistle you know the drill. Better to each have our own rather than trying to juggle on the day.

Discussion#1, The team. Well we have 8 names left on the list so i guess youve all made the team. My initial thoughts for pairings are the following. However it would be folly of me to suggest we write this in stone until the haggling in the Barn End is complete on Hodgo' Eve. Leg1 - NickB/(tbd) Leg2 - Stevio/c0b Leg3 - OCH/POB Leg4 - AlexC/Timdog. RESERVES - DaveC

Request#3, The team. We have 8 but everyone who has been part in the past is fully aware of the woes which can befall a Hodgo' team member in the run up to the event. So if there are others out there yet to raise a hand that would be willing to be a travelling reserve or even a reserve to be called into action the night before i would be most grateful if they came forward and if so wished joined us for what is generally a fun weekend.

Discussion#2, Travel+Sleeping. Well your all old enough to arrange this yourself however, i am heading down with my beloved & Co on the Friday night to make a weekend of it, as i believe is Timdog & Family. In the past travelling down on the Saturday, camping in Brotherswater has been the order of the day so i suggest a meeting for the remainder of the team to convoy down then.

The start is 15mins earlier this year too, im not sure that makes much odds to us ! ;]

Leg1 - Nick/Tommo Leg2 - Stevio/c0b Leg3 - OCH/POB Leg4 - AlexC/Timdog. RESERVES - 1.DaveC 2.A.N.OTHER

tbc in the Barn End Bar! ;]

Looking forward to it already. I'll offer my apologies to Tommo for our finishing position now. :-)

Sorry Chris, I know I asked not to be considered for this but was happy to be placed on the reserve list but I'm now not even available on that weekend so please remove my name completely. Cheers BC

No problem BC, cheers. Positive mental attitude, Nicholas! ;]

I thought I had a couple of the maps but I can't find them.  The unofficial photogrpaher and cartographer still has the files with the routes marked though so can print new ones.  We've found waterproof inkjet paper that might be better than laminating (laminated ones were quite stiff) so can reprint them on that.  Comes in a pack of 25 sheets so if anyone needs other maps printed they can be done too - skyline, devils B's, Comrie...

Firstly, I'll be going down with the rabble on saturday now; Amy has something on. Shame, cos I was looking forward to using the shed again.

Team and pairing look good. Alex and I really enjoyed leg 4 last year but wouldn't mid a shot at leg 1 if there's any movement again.

Definitely up for debate 'Dog, think the pairings are probably close to right. My alternate thoughts would be something like this, but as Moray chastised me the other night i really am committing a faux pas discussing teams before the 3rd pint ... ;]

Leg1 AlexC/Timdog
Leg2 Stevio/c0b
Leg3 Nick/Tommo
Leg4 OCH/POB>
